Proposals worth nearly Rs 2,000 crore and offering an estimated 2620 jobs will be taken up by the Investment Promotion Board in its meeting to be held on January 21. Among the proposals includes two five-star hotels one scheduled to come up in Malim, Penha de França and another in Saipem-Pilerne, two Vedanta projects -- one to set up a Ductile iron pipe plant at its existing pig iron facility in Navelim-Bicholim and capacity expansion of its pig iron facility also in Navelim in Bicholim among others.
Crucial among the proposals before the Investment Promotion Board is the setting
up of the five-star hotel at Malim, Penha de França which involves setting up of a
hotel in a property admeasuring 34,840 sq metres most of which falls under natural cover and no development slope. However, the project proponent has sought a permission for only 18,500 sq metres which they say falls under development
under the current zoning with a total permissible FAR of 14,800 sq metres
for ‘in principle’ approval as well as the conversion of the 18,500 sq m from settlement
to commercial zone.
The project proposes an investment
of Rs 127 cr and employment
for only 200 people.
Also crucial is the proposal
for the grant of ‘in principle’
approval for setting up a fivestar
hotel for the Hilton Hotels
Group, construction work
on which has already started
with the necessary approvals
on the 10,000 sq metre which
is zoned as settlement and has
sought an additional 5,000 sq
metres to be made settlement
from land zoned as orchard.
The total plot size is 20,000
square metres. The project offers
a employment potential
for 220 persons.
Another tourism project
seeking approval is the proposal
from Models Real Estate
Developers to set up a
high-end shopping mall and
entertainment centre at Porvorim
and another one also
by Models for setting up of a
five-star hotel in Gauravaddo
in Calangute.
Yet another 30-room hotel
proposed in Sernabatim with
an investment of 13.50 crore
and employment of 30 people
is also before the IPB.
Besides tourism and Vedanta
projects, Centaur Pharmaceuticals
have plans for setting
up a new pharmaceutical
unit either in Latambarcem or
Tivim industrial estates.
The Goa Bagayatdar Sahakari
Kharedi Vikri Saunstha
Ltd has sought approval for
setting up godowns in an industrial
estate. All project proponents
will make presentations
before the Board during
the meet after which the projects
will be deliberated upon.
